The Barnet Eye Advent Calendar - Friday 12/12/2014

It's Friday so we thought we'd have a bit of humour, 1950's style from Edgware for our treat today. It's none other than comedian Billy McComb, at home cooking up a treat.

I suppose that if nothing else, it shows that attitudes to men in the kitchen have come a long way in the last 50 years!

For todays Charity we focus on JAMI - http://www.jamiuk.org/about-us/. I'd not heard of JAMI until a couple of days ago but I got a very nice request froma BarnetEye reader, who asked to remain anonymous who said "Rog, I've been following the Barnet Eye Advent calendar. What a lovely idea. If you can, please can you plug JAMI, who are a charity who assist people with mental health issues and operate in Edgware. They are an excellent cause and need all the help they can get doing brilliant work with people with mental health problems."

JAMI say about themselves

ABOUT US

Jami was set up in 1989 by parents, relatives and friends of people who suffered from mental health problems.

For those affected by mental health issues such as bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, depression and eating disorders, life can be extremely difficult. Often there is a breakdown of the home and family life, jobs are lost and the situation can spiral out of control.

Jami’s focus is on recovery; it is a major milestone for some to simply get out of bed in the morning and get dressed to go to one of Jami’s day centres. For others, moving to voluntary work or even paid employment may, for the first time, be an achievable goal. Jami is committed to helping members fulfil their individual potential, maximise their self-esteem and progress along their own unique recovery path.
